V. special thnx to [livejournal.com profile] aegeus & [livejournal.com profile] otemen
for going above and beyond the calls of companionable duties. <3

Before I sit down and write out a full-bitch rant about how Otakon is "teh suck-fest" of conventions [and this, right after I thought nothing could be worst than Yaoi-Con's utterly illogical/impractical set up] I wanted to thank friends and fans who showed up in spades despite bad weather and bad moods.

I really wanted to say goodbye to ota-things in style and while nothing went as planned, everything went down pretty much as expected.

The experience, while worthwhile, was you guys. It's all you baby, god love ya.

    • Friday: So many kids, so much of the time. Overheating fries my blow dryer.
    • Saturday: [livejournal.com profile] aegeus, [livejournal.com profile] jlh and the adorable [livejournal.com profile] wordplay join us for the viewing of anime. Minutes before, overheating fries my TV.
    • Sunday: Brooklyn is achieved through no small feat. [livejournal.com profile] mr_cutiepants & [livejournal.com profile] akickinthehead are far too indulgent of too many kids. Masses of White Fudge Cookies and Cheese Taquitos. Overheating fries my brain.
    • Today/Tomorrow:Hibernation
    • Wed: Prints Getting, supply acquiring, hair dying, last chance for laundry.
    • Thursday: Otakon or Bust!
*People missing from the equation, should really try and reach me at the homestead. Because I'm all about the being fried and not having time for stuffs....
    1. Thunderstorm takes out my modem [again]
    2. Run out of rum
    3. Sit thru three hours of sawing my teeth @ the dentist
    4. Babies overtake my home.
Yup, it's beginning to feel a lot like pre-Otakon panic ^^;
Considering Otakon's "Latest Official Statement", specifically ...
"Mass produced prints of original art depicting licensed characters.
Not allowed. (The original is, but NOT the prints.)"[Poll #674110]
I posted about the FAN-ART Ban when it was announced, but now I really regret having locked it. So, it's un-locked for public consumption and expanded on here.

It is not hysteria to show concern. It is a strength, not weakness, to admit you're wrong. It is not confrontational to merely have a difference of opinion. And it is never EVER to early to be informed.

These are rules for life not just to abate flamewars.

We shouldn't stand back and say nothing. It should be a matter of simply dismissing it by asking yourself 'well how does this affect me personally?' so much as 'how does this NOT affect me?' The long standing affects of careless actions such as this will redefine our media culture.

I've got to say I think between all the forums and feedback I've been hearing, this is my favorite post about it. Read more... )Entirely impartial, factual and enlightening. The peoples in charge of AA at Otakon need to take a long hard discerning look at themselves before they... oh, what's that expression my Mom used to say? "Cut off their nose in spite of their face," or something like that.

ADDS: Oh, the Editor from Dark Horse Comics just won a little place in my cold, black heart.
