OK FOR REALZ. Reasons you should go to Animazement:
1. Uh, I'LL be there. Duh, of course you should go. 2. Every artist I speak with makes freaking BANK at Animazement--these are all artists ranging heavily in style, platforms, and genres. My friend Bob has a very cartoonish "American" style and likes to draw boobs, and he profits. Iris has a gothic style and she always makes a bajillion dollars. Annie's art is CG and almost always mistaken for the creator of whatever fanart she's doing, and she's a thousandaire. Kids buy Kathy's cute stuff. Their parents buy my stuff. We all make bucks. 3. There are some cool fucking artists that go to Animazement. It's a small enough convention where it doesn't feel overwhelming, but you absolutely HAVE TO walk through Artist Alley in order to get to the Dealer's room / certain events, so there is constant traffic--I hardly ever have time to work on commissions at the table because I'm usually talking to someone / handling prints / signing something / at the art auction. But, even though I have almost no time, I still get a lot of commissions, and it's really from people who appreciate your unique style, and not just "I WANT TO BE DRAWN ANIME STYLE ROXORS!!!!!ONE!!!one11!!" 4. Oh, and the art auction is good, too, if you're into that. 5. I won't be living there anymore, but you can proooobably find one of the many artists in the area who will let you stay with them for free. No, seriously. 6. The artists are some of the coolest I've ever met. Every Animazement, it's like a reunion of best friends. Lots of laughter. Lots of debauchery. Lots of good times. It is a very special convention for me--very close to my heart, and everyone I speak to that has attended, artist or not, feels a similar way. 7. And, besides the art fart, AZ has very good guest relations peoples, so they always have really amazing guests / events / panels / the like.
The only other conventions I plan on attending next year are AnimeBoston (god willing I get a table), Otakon (more for the friends part of it), and, if I happen to like it next month, NYAF. Maybe AWA, just because I'm right there. If I do any other con, it'll be in the dealer's room, because my boss is kind--I plan to do AnimeNext in the dealer's room, definitely. But, I want to see you, please!??!
