Day #18. ZOMBIES

Beside my tablet, I keep a vial of Zombie!Cure I picked up sometime ago. I've got escape routes, weapons, back-up escape routes, back-up weapons, etc. Zombie Apocalypse comes & I'm all about the double-tap + heads-shots-only. I get that.
But today, I realized what I don't get is "Fan-Girls". If they ever up-rose... I'd just swallow my shotgun.

Further proof that I'm always likely to be the smallest in the room...

Just finished the last in the Not : OZ series. My brother, [livejournal.com profile] tier_luren... the Lounging Monkey? (because he can't be arsed to fly ^^;)
  1. He does make for a good monkey.
  2. He does own wings that tiny... tinier actually, if I recall, they're one inch big.
  3. This was meant to be a welcome home gift, only he's left again.
  4. He may never see this.
  5. :(
Which means this...

....is the new OhShush.Com
(and most likely permanent) background.
It's a bit gorgeous, innit?

Is there nothing we can do?

I watched and wailed as my club was turned into a condo with an ajoining Sushi Bar.
...as my dive bars turned into yuppie student pick up joints...
...my local community center turned into a mini-mall...
...St. Marks turn into Camden...
...and now CBGB's turning into fucking fluff...

There is nothing right in my world when I have to commute 21/2 hours out of my way for a decent show.
What could be more depressing in the universe than sobering up on the train ride back from Brooklyn?!

"TV ROTS YOUR BRAINS!!" -- Don't Tell Mom The Baby-Sitters Dead

I meant to post those links in the previous post last Friday, but what with the mass of Cartoons premiering last weekend and the sugar coma that immediately followed. (Ambrosia & Malta does not a meal make... a three-day brain spasm, however...)

Oddly enough, since I'm no longer working at home I'm watching more TV. Doesn't leave me time for much else though, while I'm on the clock I mean. Cut Due To BRAIN-ROT )

NerdTests.com says I'm a High Nerd. What are you? Click here!
I add this simply because, after a ranty-post like this you can see why I hadn't posted the results of this quiz earlier. It's depressing! Clearly, I'm much more of a Sci-Fi / Comic geek... it's not my fault PC's speak to me.

I wish I could do something other than watch the boob-tube while at work, but as much as I try, anything else, even reading a book just takes too much attention away from the monkey baby.

Any suggestions for something decent and/or new to watch? As noted; my interests are diverse...

Aaaaaaaand now, back to Fraggle Rock. XD

Thoughts on an Alternate Career Choice

Too tolerant jlh and I spent nearly three hours being held hostage by her cat Veda last night this morning, that was until in we used an old garbage pale and stealthy sweeping motion to finally get her into the carrier, much in fashion of Looney Tunes. Patient and dulcet tones only go so far. Admittedly, I feel bad for manhandling any living creature, but only for all of a minute, because they don't know to hold grudges and it's not like they have the capacity to know what's best... although they behave like they do. [Especially Cats, with their knowing gazes.]

But moments like these make me wonder, how exactly it turned out that I'm responsible for rearing children. I don't mean to sound self-doubting or in anyway reflect the feelings of my family who pride repopulating the planet above all else. But it does seem peculiar that I didn't get into lion-taming or animal training of some sort. Some Evidence;
2 Hours in:
Clio - What do I do now to get her in the carrier?
Vulz - Why don't you just head toward the front door? It's likely she'll follow. If she thinks your going, she'll want to go with you.
But then again it's not so mysterious -
2 Hours ago:
Jmom - What do I do to get her want to use the potty?
Vulz - Why don't you just head toward the bathroom? It's likely she'll follow. If she thinks your going, she'll want to go with you.

But babies, they get clever and start with the talking back. I don't like that. Whereas animals, especially domestic one pretty much stay at toddler mentality for their entire career as a pet. Perhaps, I have missed my calling.

More Evidence:
-Caught a mouse single-handedly Sunday morning because my cat[s!] couldn't be bothered.
-Trained the kid's, recently discovered to be female hamster, accidentally named Humbert Humbert, to be handled by children and not bite or piddle.
-Rescued and restored a snapping Turtle, I then affectionately named Suicide. Donating her a year later to the local school, where the unexplained nickname "Suie" remains to this day.
-Released all spiders and mice trapped living to the open field three block's away. Yep, this means walking all the way there, arms extended and hands clasped shut, like a great big goof.
-Also, I tend to give animals very weird names. ^^; [Suicide (turtle), Mischief (my dalmatian), Misery, Id & Omen (my cats), Humbert-Humbert (hamster), Furball (The Iguana) Etc.]
-The last point is a winning argument as to why I should never be allowed to have children!

I asked around. Victor says that I'm just a Firebird and protective like that. I think that's just a dig at my hair color. Aria says I'm more like a Lioness, what with the mice catching and having three kitties. I think that's just a dig at the curly red mane I have going on this humid-humid August. Really its all about my hair apparently... Which reminds me, remember when I said there wouldn't be pictures of the fairytale ball. I lied. Pictures to come eventually, maybe.

In other news; I miserable. I've unexpectedly caught a cold this week. The second time this summer... I guess, you'd think it'd be more expected by now. Off to bed.

Quickly Adds: If a picture says a thousand words, this ones screams "Pet Psychiatrist!" I'm not imagining this, am I?

So, I picked up the Weekly Planet, Forbidden Planet newsletter, along with The Voice and the usual "Saturday = Yay!" periodicals for errand running and quick read throughs, that is until I come upon the column "El Static Ageo" by Juan Ayala.

Being a New York native, melting pot of the fucking universe, I learned early on that it's just as easy to be prejudice for something as it is to be prejudice against something. And while I'm terribly proud of my hodge-podge of an ethnicity, the last thing I would lend to it is any of my talents.

Jan - Week 4

Jan 22 - There comes a time in every persons life when they realizes they can't go another minute without watching a John Hugh's film. Appalled to have learned that my life-long friend J has never seen "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", today is one of those rare and beautiful days. She called out of work, we searched out the DVD [Bueller . . . Bueller . . . Edition], scrapped together the funds and hid-out with cheap take out and too many quilts.

What Ferris Bueller's Day Off Character Are You?

Honestly; the thing about Sloane, is that pretty as she is she is delightfully necessary. Not one scheme they ran would have worked without her. She's grounded center in their vortex of stupid. Charismatic, obsessive, impulsive stupid, but stupid nonetheless.

Our party has never had a successful Sloane, we've very much been the dynamic duo. But this evening as it is wouldn't be possible without a beautiful and influential Clio to supply the source for our stupidity.

Postal Service - Against All Odds (Phil Collins cover)
Sex Pistols - My Way [Frank Sinatra Cover] - listening-essential as it is the track that started the addiction [for me]
Gary Jules - Mad World [Tears for Fears Cover] - because this is both beautiful and one of the most listening-essential covers to come out this generation.

Jan 16 -INTESTINES!! )

Jan 17 - I'm still killing myself trying to get a hold of The Postal Service's cover of "Against The Odds". I thought this brilliant piece of resource here [link] would somehow be of help, but NOOOoooo the track provided is all of 29 second long. SUCH a tease! REM - First We Take Manhattan [Leonard Cohen Cover] because makes me think of [profile] misstuesday

"The last unicorn is coming out on a special edition DVD in WIDESCREEN and remastered audio/video so you can hear Amalthea's awful singing even better! Waaoh dudes. But here is the important part..

The writer of the novel and the screenplay, Peter S. Beagle, is still in legal battles about getting paid for it. He won't get any royalties from the DVD Osales either, frown. But if you buy it through Conlan Press he will get HALF of the profit and you can get it signed by him. And it's only $25! Signed by the writer, so much better than getting it through Amazon. And the unsigned one is only $15, which is cheap. You have no reason to get it anywhere else, unless you can't use Region 1 DVDs.

On a not entirely unrelated note: I have the Last Unicorn remix somewhere amongst the 26,000 tracks on my F-Drive. It is mislabeled and keeps freaking me out when it appears only on random then vanishes into the mist. Curses.
Jan 19 - Ladies and Gentlemen, it is NOT winter in New York. That is certainly not snow I see out my living room window and that is definitely not crystallized breath haunting the native faces. What that is is God's precum, a practical joke on you whiners who don't know better. I'm telling you it is a set up and when you think you've whinged to your heart's content she is going to sit on your face and show you who ownz you. Currently I'm writing an epic letter to Santa and The Efret [not the one you imagine but the cool one who gets shit done] to get the message across next years that we're coming down and kicking your pubeless Assess!! You fucking pussies! Just for that I'm wearing something smart and going to see Bellmer Dolls while you congratulate yourselves on your on-line purchase of the matching set of gloves and scarves to wear to your Gay Prom, you posers you! I'm off to have mouth-sex with Vodka. So Fuck You.

If you were a real New Yorker you'd be http://www.crashmansion.com/ with me, pulling up a stool and show the likes how a REAL New Yorker forages for winter.

Jan 20 - How mad am I that I forgot my camera on the way out last night. SO MAD. And it was such a good night, such a good night* it left me wanting . . . to work, of all things!

Only time appears to be doing that trick documented in Tim Burton's "Big Fish".

There are these torturous and extended moments when the earth stills and no amount of effort on my part bring me closer to my goal . . . and then suddenly I'm wrong and everything is right and perfect, and the guy in charge of the gears throw a switch and the world spins twice as fast to catch up and I'm left exhausted, enthused and utterly stunned.

I guess in that respect you could say I'm in love with my work.

*Remarkably, I came away with more bruises from fighting with seven children for space on the King Size than ALL of last nights scurrying about. Considering how this time last year, the result for a show of the same size were markedly different I am VERY impressed with myself . . . and very much with the kids, too.

Jan 21 - Lately I've taken to re-reading a Scandal in Bohemia, first time since I was maybe 12. Just bits and pieces before bed each night. I've decided I want Irene Adler. Not to have her, but to chase her. I think I maybe always did. TV Husband not withstanding there is so much to be said for the sort of attraction that needs chasing after. The unattainable.

Sick to think that all my romantic yens are equally as cruel as they are self-satisfying.

In a related but entirely random sort of respect; I caught up with my TV Husband on Soapnet earlier where he was arrested apparently for coming out as a lesbian. Bad writers, bad-bad writers. Shoddy detective work, illegal search and seizure, public inquisition without the reading of rights, circumstantial everything just all over the place. It's a good thing Jeffrey Carlson tosses his hair so prettily or I'd have to get a life in that 45 minute span when I wait for the five-year-old to get out of school.

Three Quick Questions

In no particular order;
    1) I also got a free laptop through fandom sources; does this make me evil? If not, what will? I'll try anything once.

    2) How come every time the baby can't breath right, neither can I? Never knew asthma to be contagious.

    3) Why're both sides competing over who is suffering more, when me and mine are on the verge of loosing our third grandparent in a year but to say it out loud would be a slight to the other side of the fam.

...ok, not a question so much as a bleaugh! comment.

How do people maintain sketch journals?! I am so envious of people who can actually sketch. Everything I've created in the past six years, for either school or work, feels so utterly joyless because of it. It just isn't in me...like I've dried up or something.
